PICTURE LOS ANGELES

Vitrine installation at Otis College of Art & Design

January 11th - March 28th, 2018

I frequently find inspiration in paper ephemera that aren't traditionally considered landscape depictions, but nevertheless capture time and place. Such renderings include maps, brochures, postcards, newspapers, and commemorative catalogues.

This vitrine display included a selection of publications I've made, as well as items from my personal Los Angeles collection - including some works chosen for their connection to Otis College history.

I wanted to share these pieces as a jumping off point for conversation. How do you picture Los Angeles? What current ephemera is overlooked, but should be archived? Which LA sites are left off of maps, but are ripe for visual commemoration?

I invited the college community to share their thoughts in a notebook available to the public.
